Blars' Link Requirements
I only link to pages that can be viewed with browsers that handle html
1.0 using http 1.0. If you have requested a link and gotten the
answer that your page does not meet my minimum technical requirements
this is what is being refered too. I test this with either Netscape
1.1 for Solaris or Lynx 2.4. (My choice -- generally the latter.)
This means don't bother trying to get me to link to a page that requires:
- frames (frames are so poorly
designed they cannot be implemented without making rash assuptions
about the display devices)
- security holes such as
Java, Javascript or Active X
(While
the current set of known security holes dealing with
java may be fixed in recent browsers, this is no indication that all
such holes have been found, and I have yet to hear of any good reason
they are needed on general access web pages.)
- cookies
- has text as images with no reasonable "alt"
If you have a domain that points to a web server that uses HTTP 1.1 to
figure out which page is requested, please send an alternate URL to
access your page.
I find it rather amazing how many web page designers either don't know
how to or don't bother to make sure their page works on normal
browsers, and even more so the horid html created by some tools. At
least one page design program goes out of its way to give "FrontPage
error" when pages designed with it are accessed with lynx 2.4. My
pages are best viewed
with any browser. I've considered, and rejected, the possibility
to make my page frames hostile or even to take advantage of IE bugs to
auto-install linux on any system
suffering from it.
If you have verified that your page meets my minimum technical requirements,
and think that it is appropriate for one of my pages,
send me email.
